11-Sep-2012; RMRG,
Summit County Rescue Group (SCRG)
and members of the
Sichuan Mountaineering Association (SMA) after a day of rescue training at
Mt. Siguniang
National Park (Four Sisters National Park), Sichuan Province, China. Seven RMRG
and five SCRG members travelled to China in September to participate in the exchange
and provide technical rescue training to their Chinese hosts. Training included four
days of lectures and field personal and team training on rope work, avalanche awareness, low angle evacuation
and land search operations.
Mt. Siguniang National Park is a World Heritage site with soaring granite
walls, glaciers, black bears and yaks. SMA is a chinese government sponsored
mountaineering association that provides mountain guides for local and foreign
clients in the Sichuan region. SMA assisted in the search and then recovery
operation for
Johnny Copp,
Michah Dash and Wade Johnson in 2009. Funds raised in support of that operation
led to an
SMA delegation rescue exchange visit to Colorado in 2010. The 2010 exchange
in turn inspired the 2012 exchange.
